Adults think of childhood as a carefree time, but the truth is that children worry, and worry a lot, especially in our highly pressurized era. This book addresses children’s worries with humor and imagination, as hilarious scenarios teach kids the use of perspective and the art of creative problem-solving.

Review

The dark, creepy-but-cute illustrations hooked me from the cover. Marie Le Tourneau is an incredibly talented artist! I haven’t the words to describe how I enjoyed her artwork and its play with the writing.

The book amusingly lightens scary and tense (often absurd) worrisome hypotheticals, teaching children ways to deal with fears and uncomfortable scenarios–real or imagined.

I mean, what would you do if a hoard of thirsty elephants arrived for tea and you had none? 😳

“Is a Worry Worrying You?” also opens the window to discuss stress and concerns–giving parents and children a chance to talk over issues big and small.

Many parent’s nostalgia dampens memories of how they worried as a child and underestimate how their children may be troubled in similar ways.

With open conversation, most worries can be remedied or relieved. This not only strengthens the child’s emotional quotient (EQ) but teaches creative thinking—all while strengthening the parent-child bond.

As silly as it sounds, this one may be a good read for anxious adults as well. I’m thrilled to see more mental health books coming out for children. Developing emotional intelligence can’t possibly start too early.

My nieces loved reading this and giggled most of the way through. Considering the “read it again”s it got, I’d say they gave it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

I agree.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Tanglewood Press for this review copy. As always, my opinion is not influenced by this gift. You can’t buy love.

  1. What a great review! You are so right that mental health issues need to be recognized and written about in regards to children, so many have rough lives these days. This looks like a positive tool for dealing with a negative issue, and the artwork is fabulous! Thanks for sharing!

  2. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous, and the book itself enables us to have the conversations we are so scared to talk about, especially when it comes to children. Great review, Heather!

    1. Thanks, Ayah. We’ve read this one quite a few times now. The girls love it and it’s brought up some silly and serious ideas for us to talk about.

Spoiler: even serious issues end in laughter. Such magical little ladies. 😊
